Doc Bigs, or Dr. Stephene Roy Condino, had a fruitful and insightful time during his first-ever media conference. He faced the media in a restaurant in Quezon City and shared his life and passion, from being a hardworking child to an even more hardworking entrepreneur. He is currently the AVP for Business Development and Operations of Manpower for Advertising Services Agency Inc. (MASA Inc.), based in the Philippines.
Doc Bigs wants to be a business icon, not for his personal gain but for a people-driven campaign.
On his journey to becoming a successful businessman, he has nothing but praise for his mother, who served as his inspiration.
“When I was growing up, ayoko nang dagdagan yung problema niya sa buhay niya,” he recalled. “I started working at a very young age of 15. Hindi kaagad ako naging ganito; I started from the ranks. Nagsimula ako sa business namin, naging diser ako, naging supervisor ako, hindi kaga’d ako naging Vice President na ganito, nagko-commute lang ako. When after high school — wala pang K-12 noon — sabi ng nanay ko, ‘Bigyan kita ng raket!’ ‘Magkano, Ma?’ ‘400 pesos per day.’ ‘Uy, pwede na yan!’ Siguro, ngayon, nasa 700 [pesos] yon.”

He added, “I became mature at a very young age because of my mom. She’s just always been my inspiration. Actually, before coming in here, we celebrated in advance her birthday kanina sa office, and I was crying because my brother passed away last January — dalawa lang kaming magkapatid; he was younger than me.
“It was very difficult for the family to make decisions at this time, but we have to be strong, kasi kung titigil ang mundo natin, oh, what happens? Kawawa ang tao. And that has always been our mission.”
In their company, this is what Doc Bigs do: They don’t look at educational backgrounds…
True enough, Dr. Bigs has a sturdy vision for creating jobs and helping other people.
He emphasized with determination: “At the end of the day, it’s not about creating that business for my own use or for my personal use and for profit. I have a different point of view. And my point of view will always be: when you have that business, it creates opportunities.”
If Doc Bigs does not want to be a business icon for personal gain, what could it be for? His answer is not much of a surprise but an affirmation of his attitude toward work, career, and life in general.
“So, if you will ask me [how] do I see myself, I [want] to be a business icon, but not for my personal gain, but it’s [for a] people-driven campaign,” he answered. “I want people to see me, ‘A, si Doc Bigs, may trabaho yan!’… Despite ano man ako, nakatapos man ako ng college o hindi, as long as I am willing.”
“Because in our company, that is what we do. We don’t look at educational backgrounds. That’s why people are staying! ‘Sige, hindi ka naka-graduate, I will give you six months to prove yourself that you can work with us, because we believe that what you learn from school is only 30%. Even me, I’m a doctor, I’m a PhD, but I don’t believe that everything in the school, everything in the books is learned… “
Indeed, Dr. Condino is an incredibly inspiring character whose unwavering dedication and passion for job creation in the Philippines shines brightly. With his visionary leadership and relentless efforts, he continues to showcase and share a sense of hope and push to become better.
His impact on the business community, particularly in Visayas and Mindanao, is truly remarkable as someone considered as a “shining star” in these communities.
