Thai content mission in Manila generates THB 140 million in deals, projected business

Eighteen Thai film, television, and content companies generated THB 4 million in immediate business and identified another THB 136 million in projected trade during THAI CONTENT IN THE PHILIPPINES 2026, a three-day trade mission held in Manila from August 26 to 28, 2026.

Organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, the mission brought together Thai content companies with Philippine producers, distributors, and digital platforms, highlighting strong local interest in vertical-format content.

Across three days, the participating companies conducted 152 business meetings with Philippine industry players, averaging eight meetings per company.

Of the THB 136 million in projected business, THB 50 million is expected to be generated within one year, while another THB 86 million is projected over the next two to five years.

Combined with the THB 4 million in immediate business, the mission’s total value reached THB 140 million, equivalent to approximately PHP 263 million or USD 4.2 million.

The clearest market signal came from vertical content. Several Thai companies drew interest from Philippine platforms specialising in the format, reflecting how rapidly mobile consumption is reshaping the market there. For Thai producers, that points to new distribution channels and a case for developing content built for the format rather than adapted to it.

Interest also extended well beyond conventional licensing. Buyers raised co-investment, co-production, remake rights for films and series, talent and artist sourcing, fan meetings and joint marketing — models that place Thai companies as partners in production rather than as licensors of finished work.

The mission also included company visits on 26 and 27 August and a Networking Dinner Talk, which introduced the delegation to Philippine buyers, media, artists and content creators.

Ms. Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, Director-General of DITP, said:

“THAI CONTENT IN THE PHILIPPINES 2026 has delivered results on two levels. The trade value is a clear outcome, but equally significant is what our companies have learned about the market — the formats Philippine buyers require, and the business models they are prepared to enter into.

The interest in vertical content is instructive. It is a format Thai producers are well equipped to supply, and the demand exists now. This is the value of direct engagement: the opportunity was presented to our companies in person, not identified through a market report.

Thai content has the quality and the range to compete anywhere in this region. The Department’s role is to ensure that buyers and producers meet.”

DITP supports Thai businesses entering international markets through trade missions, market-development activities and business matching in target markets, working to strengthen the competitiveness of Thailand’s content industry.

The event is organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, with Hello Sunrise Productions as their local partner.
