Upgraded Manila airport to welcome returning Filipinos – PBBM

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about the soon-to-be-unveiled enhancements at the Manila airport, part of a comprehensive rehabilitation endeavor valued at PhP170.6 billion aimed at facilitating the return of Filipinos.

Addressing the Filipino community in Brunei Darussalam, President Marcos highlighted the significance of the extensive airport upgrade initiative, targeting enhancements in passenger terminals, airside facilities, and seamless intermodal transfers.

Expressing a sense of urgency, President Marcos underscored the neglected state of the Manila airport under previous administrations, leading to unfavorable international assessments.

“Pagbalik po ninyo sa Pilipinas, we hope to also welcome you to a new and upgraded Manila International Airport,” remarked President Marcos during his engagement with the Filipino community in Brunei Darussalam, part of his two-day visit to the Sultanate. With a budget of 170.6 billion pesos allocated, the initiative aims to revamp passenger terminals and airside facilities while streamlining inter-terminal transfers and facilitating connectivity to provincial bus terminals.

President Marcos outlined a 15-year timeline for the project’s implementation, with initial improvements expected as early as next year. He emphasized the administration’s steadfast commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation.

Additionally, President Marcos pledged a transition to renewable energy sources, including wind, geothermal, biomass, wave, and hydroelectric power, to ensure swift restoration of energy following natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods.

President Marcos’s visit to Brunei Darussalam aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the Philippines and Brunei, established over 40 years ago, with formalization on January 1, 1984.
