Kapuso actress Nadine Samonte recently shared a mix of humor and disappointment after revealing her experience as an online “miner” during live selling sessions hosted by Charo Cordial, the president and founder of Maddox Jewelry.
Like many buyers who frequent live-selling platforms, Samonte admitted she actively participates in mining items online. However, she candidly noted that her comments often go unnoticed, prompting her to take a more direct approach.
Instead of waiting to be acknowledged virtually, the actress decided to personally visit the Maddox Jewelry showroom located along J.P. Rizal Street in Concepcion Uno, Marikina City, where she browsed pieces in person.
Her visit was initially straightforward. She was tasked with purchasing an open-heart necklace for her sister Nicole, who is currently based in Germany. But what began as a simple errand quickly turned into an unexpected revelation.
Samonte brought along a ring she had previously purchased from a TikTok seller. She believed she had secured a major bargain—buying the piece for ₱100,000 from what was presented as an original price of ₱300,000. Her plan was to have the ring assessed and possibly trade it in for a new piece she preferred.
However, during the evaluation, Cordial immediately noticed irregularities.
The verdict: the ring was neither genuine gold nor diamond.
The actress did not hide her disappointment.
“Of course, I felt sad. It was like my world collapsed,” she said, reacting to the discovery.
The incident also resurfaced a painful chapter from her past. Samonte recalled her early years after joining the reality talent search StarStruck, when she began investing her earnings in gold upon her mother’s advice.
That investment, however, was lost after a household helper allegedly took all her jewelry during a move.
“I lost myself in that moment. I was heartbroken,” she shared.
Among the stolen pieces was one that carried deep sentimental value—a ring gifted to her by her late father on her 18th birthday.
“That was the saddest part. The only memory I had from my dad… it was gone,” she said.
Despite the emotional weight of her experiences, Samonte described her visit to Maddox Jewelry as meaningful. The trip not only clarified the authenticity of her recent purchase but also allowed her to open up about her personal journey—both as a public figure and as someone who has endured loss.
“I’m human, too,” she added.
The full conversation, which touches on lessons learned, financial awareness, and moving forward with smarter investments, will be released on the official Maddox Jewelry Facebook page and the Maddox_Jewelry YouTube channel.
