Blue Dreamers PH turn family struggles, bullying, painful pasts into fuel for P-pop dreams

Before they became the “Magic 5” of Blue Dreamers PH, the young vocal group first had to survive months of isolation, exhausting training, and personal battles they rarely talk about in public.

For Jarred, Zhian, Shayne, and twins Jairex and Xanxan, music became an escape from painful family experiences. Ultimately, it was a way to prove something to themselves after years of bullying, rebellion, or emotional struggles at home.

Now officially stepping into the spotlight after their launch last year, Blue Dreamers PH is hoping those real-life experiences will connect with listeners as they begin carving their own path in the P-pop scene.

During a media conference held at a restaurant in Quezon City on May 7, 2026, the group also introduced their debut album “Lowkey Tayo” while looking back on the difficult journey that shaped them before entering the industry.

The group is composed of:

  • Jarred Salvador from Makati
  • Zhian Mendaza from Mindoro
  • Shayne Monreal from Albay
  • Twins Jairex Tan and Xanxan Tan from Zamboanga del Sur

Before debuting, the trainees spent 154 days inside the Blue Dreamers House without cellphones and under continuous camera surveillance.

Alongside singing, dancing, acting, and modeling workshops, they also faced personality tests, teamwork challenges, discipline training, and emotionally demanding evaluations that pushed them far beyond performance skills.

Dreams born from difficult moments

For Shayne, family struggles became one of the biggest reasons she kept going despite the pressure of training. Instead of letting difficult experiences weigh her down, she said she chose to turn them into strength while pursuing music.

“Bilang isang panganay, gusto ko pong maging maayos yung buhay namin na lang po forever… maghihirap kami.”

(As the eldest child, I want our lives to finally become stable forever… so we no longer have to struggle.)

Zhian, meanwhile, looked back on years of bullying because of his appearance before entering the industry.

“Sobrang chubby ko po dati… Ginawa ko na lang siyang inspiration para mas mapalakas yung loob ko na abutin yung pangarap ko.”

(I used to be very chubby before… I just turned it into inspiration to strengthen my courage in reaching my dreams.)

For twins Jairex and Xanxan, some wounds remain too personal to fully discuss publicly, though both admitted that family experiences involving their father became major motivations in life.

“Mahirap siya i-disclose. Kasi dati pong police si daddy po namin… Ginagamit ko naman siyang inspiration at motivation para mas lalo kaming ganahan sa buhay na pinapangarap namin,” Jairex shared.

(It’s difficult to disclose. Our father used to be a police officer… I use it as inspiration and motivation so we can become even more driven toward the life we dream of.)

Xanxan chose to keep things brief but emotional.

“Yung mga nangyari sa daddy po namin. Mahirap po siyang i-disclose, sorry.”

(What happened to our father… it’s difficult to disclose, sorry.)

Jarred, meanwhile, reflected on a different kind of struggle — realizing he had unintentionally drifted away from his family because of the lifestyle and friendships he once prioritized.

“Yung hindi ko po masyadong natuunan ng pansin yung family ko po dahil mabarkada po talaga ‘kong tao.”

(I wasn’t able to give much attention to my family because I was really the type of person who was always with friends.)

“Dati po kasi iba yung paningin ko po sa pagdisipilina sa akin ng family ko and talagang nabarkada po ako. Pero sa ngayon po, ito na rin yung way ko para bumawi sa family ko.”

(Before, I viewed my family’s discipline differently and I really got carried away with friends. But now, this has become my way of making it up to my family.)

154 days inside the Blue Dreamers House

The journey toward becoming Blue Dreamers PH was far from instant.

The group emerged from a lengthy nationwide search that started with around 80 aspirants before narrowing down to 20 trainees, then eventually forming the “Lucky 8” who underwent more intensive evaluations and training before the final five members were selected.

Over the course of a year, the members attended acting workshops, vocal coaching sessions, and performance training under different mentors while preparing for their official debut.

Now carrying the name “Magic 5 Blue Dreamers,” the group has started introducing its sound through original music releases distributed by Artist Central Music.

During their album launch for “Lowkey Tayo,” they emphasized that the album servie as their first major step into the music industry.

Aside from “Lowkey Tayo,” they also released the upbeat dance track “Dance Tayo” and “912 Hours Journey,” a love song that serves as the theme song of the upcoming movie of the same title.

All three tracks were composed by their manager, Ms. MJ Gutierrez.

For Blue Dreamers PH, though, the music represents more than just a debut.

Behind the choreography, harmonies, and polished performances are stories of sacrifices, unfinished healing, family struggles, and second chances — experiences they now hope to transform into something bigger as they chase their dream of becoming the next P-pop sensation.
